Reporting to: Engineering Manager - Automation
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Translate written design concepts/sketches, product data, and customer requirements/standards into fully functional SOLIDWORKS designs.
- Able to generate accurate Bills of Materials, and Detail Prints.
- Work in a collaborative environment with Project Managers, Build Manager, Manufacturing Manager, and Controls Manager.
- Develop and evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and optimal cost.
- Capable from design concept, through revisions, to final approved designs.
- Interact with vendors to determine proper and cost-effective purchased items.
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews with ability to effectively translate meeting minutes into final/approved designs.
- Assist Jr. Automation Designers on assigned projects.
- Work with builders to monitor assembly progress and update designs/details to “as built” when required.
- Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost.
- Provide written and verbal work direction to team members.
- Ability to perform CAE simulations, FEA, and engineering calculations.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required competency and experience:
- 5 to 10 years experience with SOLIDWORKS mechanical design software.
- 5 to 10 years design experience in an automotive environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Effective oral and written communications.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Detail orientated.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive projects.
- Remain flexible while working in a fast paced, frequently changing environment.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment as required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with robotics, vision systems, and other complex turn-key purchased mechanisms and sub-systems.
- Should have understanding of common mechanical engineering practices, standards, mechanisms, and purchased components.
- Understanding of machine ergonomics, serviceability, and maintenance.
- Should have strong troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
Education:
- Technical School Graduate or equivalent experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is essential.
